So you’ve been thinking about hiring an online business coach but it feels like there are so many out there that you don’t really know who you can trust to help you grow your online business.
As someone who’s been burned by a coaching programme in the past, I know how it feels to pick the wrong business coach (it literally cost me tens of thousands of pounds).
So today I’m going to share with you some things to look out for when you’re thinking of getting your own business coach so that you can find the right coach for you.
Because choosing the right fit has a direct impact on the kind of results you can expect.
How many times have you been looking for something in your daily life and you can’t see it for looking? Usually the thing you’re searching for is right in front of your face.
The same can be said for business coaching.
When you’re “in” your business it can be hard to see something that’s super obvious to outside eyes.
Coaches allow you to see the things that you can’t in your online business. It offers that fresh perspective.
The benefit of having a Business Coach can be huge. In a study carried out by the ICF, 80% of people who received coaching reported better self-confidence and 70% of participants improved their relationships, communication skills and their performance.
I’ve learned so much from my online coaching experiences, even when they’ve not turned out as expected. It showed me how I want to run my coaching containers so that my clients get the best results possible after working with me.
So what can a business coach help you with?
Business coaches are there to support you in your business journey.
We can give you guidance and advice and support you in helping you to achieve your goals, review your content, give you an extra set of eyes on business plans and even help you with other things like sales and marketing and your content strategy.
Of course that’s just the tip of the iceberg and a whole blog post in itself.
I also think it’s important to discuss what a Business Coach can’t do for you, so that we can manage expectations here.
I want to be fully transparent because I talk about my client’s wins a lot but here’s the thing…not all my clients get results.
Because not every client takes action and I can’t do the work for you, nor can a lot of business coaches.
For example, if you enrol in Freedom CEO Accelerator, you can share your copy and content with me for review, but you still have to write it in the first place.
I will help you map out a highly converting content strategy, but you have to implement and this is where some people fall short.
Simply hiring a Business Coach won’t solve your problems if you don’t take action.
So now you know what your Business Coach can and can’t do. How do you choose the right one for your business?
One easy way to spot whether or not a coach is worth it is by looking at their offer suite.
Sadly, there are a lot of coaches out there that seem to constantly be releasing “new” offers every month.
But they’re not new offers, they’re literally the same thing packaged up slightly differently with a new name on it.
There are usually no resources to accompany these programmes and they rarely deliver on the programme promise.
You want to be looking for a Business Coach that has signature offers. The same offer that they release time and time again, refine every time and something that has a track record for getting results, like CCA for example, which has now had dozens of students.
Those types of offers are powerful not only for you as a client but as a business owner too.
You also need to look out for client testimonials and not just in the obvious places.
Reach out to their former clients if you know who they are. Put up an instagram story asking if anyone has worked with the particular coach they’re looking for and ask them to tell you more about their journey and how the coach helped them to get results.
Sales pages will always be littered with testimonials and screenshots, but it’s also important to look beyond that and reach out to those people too for more depth.
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s super important to get along with your coach, have similar values and share the same interests.
I help a lot of my clients quit their 9-5 so they can travel with their business full time like I did, it’s something that we have in common.
Having similar interests with your coach allows you to build a stronger bond and develop a level of trust.
You’ll want to be vulnerable and honest with your business coach and for that to happen you have to build that relationship.
However, when coaches throw around phrases like spend 10s of thousands of dollars to be in my energy, I consider that a red flag.
Usually it means there’s no substance for their actual offer so they use phrases like this to get you in.
You want to know that as well as teaching you the mindset and energetics side of things, that they also can give you actionable steps to grow your business.
To be honest, there really is no “right” time to hire a business coach, but there are a few great reasons why hiring a coach might be a great business decision for you right now.
