How to Change Your TikTok Region WITHOUT a VPN

This blog post is going to tell you how you can influence specific countries on TikTok so your content can be seen by the right people… plus you don’t have to be a tech genius or try to change the algorithm.

Why Would I Need to Change My TikTok Target Country?

I’m a Business and Marketing Coach who travels full time as a digital nomad, so I have to be able to find ways to reach audiences in the UK, the US, Australia and Europe whilst on the road.

My ideal clients tend not to be in the places I am travelling. For example, I’ve recently been living in Bali, Thailand and Dubai. 

Do VPNs Work to Change Your TikTok Region?

Wondering which VPN will work with TikTok?

Despite what many people say, VPNs do not work when you’re trying to change your region on TikTok. 

Nowadays, most apps know that you’re using a VPN; this is why people using a VPN usually can’t access Netflix selections from other countries. 

I’ve tried multiple different VPNs and they don’t work on TikTok no matter how hard you try.

Can I Just Change My TikTok Region Directly on TikTok 

Sadly no.

In your TikTok settings there is an option to change your region. However, this is something I’ve tried personally in multiple countries I’ve been living in and that doesn’t seem to make any difference either. 

How to Change Your TikTok Target Country

This is a super simple TikTok hack and I’m surprised no one else is talking about it but it’s as simple as changing your SIM card. 

So, for example, if you’re trying to target the US, you’ll need a US phone number in your phone. 

This has by far been the best solution for me to influence and target specific countries on TikTok. 

And it works instantly. 

As soon as you put the SIM card in your phone, you will notice that your content will start getting pushed out to people in that country.

Another great way to check this is to have a quick scroll through the For You page, you’ll naturally see other people’s content from that specific country suddenly start popping up. 

It might sound like a hassle to get a SIM card from a specific country, especially if you don’t live there or maybe you’re not even from there. However, there is a way to get a SIM card from a specific country without trying to get someone to ship you a physical card.

How to Get a SIM Card for Your Region

So, here’s a couple of options for you to get your SIM in the specific country/region you want to target on TikTok

Option 1: Use Your SIM Card from your Home Country

Keep your physical SIM card from your home country if that’s the country that you’re targeting and whenever you need to use data from the country you’re travelling, you’ll have to switch out the physical SIM card for the one that you want to use.

For example, if you’re living in Thailand like I was a month ago, you’d have to take out your UK SIM and put in your Thai SIM when you’re out and about and you need to use the data and then pop the UK SIM back in your phone when you want to use TikTok. 

I’ll be honest, this way is not my favourite because it requires a lot of effort having to switch the SIM card every time so I’m going to give you a much better option. 

Nevertheless, this could work well for you if you have a dual SIM – I’d just recommend deactivating the “local” SIM before posting on TikTok and making sure you deactivate your UK SIM if you’re out and about without WiFi – or you could end up with huge roaming charges. 

Option 2: Get an eSIM Card 

The next option is to get an eSIM for your phone. 

eSIMs are basically like a normal SIM card, however it’s digital, not physical and just connects  straight to your phone with a QR code. No physical card is needed.

How to Use an eSIM

So there are a couple of ways you can use an eSIM. 

What I personally prefer is to keep my physical SIM card in my phone. I’m mostly targeting the UK so it makes sense to just keep my existing SIM. 

Then I have an eSIM which I use when I’m out and about and I need to use data when I’m not able to connect to Wi Fi. 

Whenever I need to use TikTok, I switch off my eSIM in my phone settings and it literally takes less than 30 seconds. 

Option 3: Get a SIM from the Country You Want TikTok Followers From 

The final option is to get a SIM or eSIM with a phone number of the country that you’re targeting. 

So for example, you can use an eSIM with a US phone number and target the US, or get an eSIM with an Australian phone number and target Australia. 

Sometimes, the eSIMs offer data roaming too, so you can use the data of the country that you’re in. 

If they don’t offer data roaming, you can get a second eSIM that works in the country that you’re going to. 

So again another example is that you could get an eSIM with an Australian number to target Australia but also get an eSIM of the country you’re in at that time. 

You can then simply switch between the two eSIMS depending on your needs.
